Michael Siervo

Board Chair

Born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Michael quickly grew up admiring the Filipino work ethic. He graduated from the University of Toronto with Honours in Management & Economics and quickly rose through the ranks at some of the top wealth management companies in North America. In 2007, he was part of the team that revolutionized retirement thinking. With over $1 Billion in sales the first year, this became the most successful product launch in Canadian history.

Michael has held Director, Vice President and leadership roles in four of the top Fortune 500 Companies. Currently, he is the District Vice President of the largest Asset Management Firm in Canada. He is also the CEO of Vosier Enterprises, a private conglomerate ranging from Real Estate, Investments and Restaurant ventures.

Having served as Board of Director for several local charities, Michael is dedicated to community work and philanthropy. He is currently the benefactor of the Michael and Vivienne Siervo Scholarship Fund and has sponsored countless causes within the Filipino Community.

Alma Armada

Co-Chair

Alma Armada, CEO of her own company, Alma Armada & Company Ltd., a very well-known and successful Immigration Consulting firm, headquartered in Calgary, Alberta., with office in Edmonton and Manila. The company provides immigration services, as well as, recruitment services.

Prior to immigrating to Canada in 1977, she was working as a Paralegal at a prestigious law firm in Manila. Her career in Canada started with Allstate Insurance Company in Toronto, Ontario; she was transferred to Calgary in 1980 and assisted in opening its first office and took on a position as a Commercial Claims Adjuster.

In 1982, she decided to switch career and worked in the Oil & Gas Sector. At Veritas Seismic, she was the Executive Assistant to the President for 17 years. She also worked at Shell Canada Corporation and Apache Oil & Gas as a Contractor for Special projects for 2 years.

In 2000, she was offered a position at Bennett Jones LLP to work as a Senior Assistant to one of the senior partners of the firm and later became a Paralegal in the Litigation division until 2007.
Her humble beginnings as an Entrepreneur was a risk that she took in 2007 when there was a labour shortage. The Temporary Foreign Worker Program was an opportunity to accomplish her mission in creating better lives for her “kababayans” (countrymen). Working in Canada would mean earning more money and be able to provide a better life for their families so she formed AIMS Temporary Foreign Worker Consulting Ltd. which later renamed to AIMS Human Resources & immigration Inc. It was a challenging beginning like any new business but success was inevitable.

Mark A. Quintin

Vice Chair

Owner, President & CEO, Kaizen Insurance and Financial Services Ltd. Currently a qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table. He worked for Bank of Montreal in the Corporate Finance Division, Real Estate Finance.

A former faculty member of University of Phoenix, AZ, USA, Meritus University, New Brunswick, Canada and Horizon University Paris, France both in the undergraduate and graduate management programs.

Prior to migrating to Canada, he was a full time faculty member of the Electronics and Communications Engineering Department of the College of Engineering at De La Salle University. Simultaneously, he occupied board position for companies in the real estate, land development, home building, education, micro financing, and print media industries. In particular, he served in the board of the National Real Estate Association in the Philippines.

He completed the academic requirements for the Doctoral Degree in Education major in Educational Technology from the University of Phoenix, AZ, USA, earned a Master in Business Administration from the Ateneo Graduate School of Business (AGSB), and finished a Bachelor’s Degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the De La Salle University. He earned 7th Place in the board examination for Electronics and Communications Engineering.

Jane Vedar

Chief Financial Officer

Co-founder of FV & Associates, Jane is a dedicated accounting professional that brings to her firm her wealth of knowledge and experience in financial reporting and analysis from a wide range of industries. Jane spent over 10 years working in the corporate world in progressive positions. Prior to this role, she enjoyed a career with Calgary Flames & Calgary Stampeders (Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation) and currently works for H&R Transport as a Financial Accountant.

Jane and her husband Klinton owned and operated a garment manufacturing business before moving to Canada in 2006. They are about to open a Taiwanese bubble tea franchise, Chatime, in Marda Loop and a fitness franchise gym, 30 Minute Hit, in the community of Sagehill in a couple of months.

With this experience, Jane understands what it takes to help entrepreneurs succeed in their business. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and is actively pursuing her Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.

Amy Lo

Board Secretary

Amy Lo is a Supply Chain Management professional, currently working in a reputable company in the oil and gas industry. Amy currently handles material requisitions in collaboration with the engineering systems and purchasing department to manage the efficient flow of materials from logistics, verification process and scheduling. Amy has an acquired certification from Mount Royal University in Supply Chain Management.

Amy has an extensive background in Business Administration, taken from DeVry Institute of Technology. Her administrative experience revolved around the oil and gas industry for over 15 years. Her early days in administration started in natural gas land marketing real estate, then progressively wore many hats in administrative roles supporting EPC (Engineering, Procurement, Construction) companies. Amy had opportunities to be an executive assistant to COO’s and CFO’s of major oil and gas companies in Calgary. From being the jill of all trades in administration. She developed skills and expertise in records management and business analytics, Amy’s hard work, wit, and readiness to learn gave her an extensive experience in data analysis, project management and supply chain. Amy supported several major projects in the oil and gas industry in Canada.

Amy is also an entrepreneur. Amy’s personal growth, rise from adversity, strong work ethic, and business integrity gained trust from an investor in building a small business from her ideas. Amy is the founder of Social Booth YYC, which created a name of its own in the events business.

Amy and her husband, Joven Bautista recently launched their own marketing agency Phoenix Marketing and Digital Design in 2019. Amy’s exposure to entrepreneurship enabled her aspirations in marketing, elevated her personal development, creativity, coaching, and philantropy. She’s made her way into networking and made strong relationships in reputable entrepreneur organizations such as Startup Grind Calgary, and the Calgary Chamber of Commerce in Calgary. Her acceptance to be part of FCCA is from her continous desire to grow and be part of a community organization that supports her roots of filipino culture, entrepreneurship, positive comradery, and help elevate others in their startups in canadian business.

VIVIENNE SIERVO

Liason Officer of Events

Showing compassion, empathy, and emotional intelligence early in her youth, Vivienne always had a keen interest in understanding people, that interest led her to focus her studies in sociology and psychology. However, while she had successfully graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology determined her passion was more suited to caring and for people directly, which led her to pursue Nursing. Since graduating with distinction from Ryerson University’s Bachelor of Nursing Program, Vivienne Siervo has been practicing as a Maternity Nurse for the last 12 years. She was raised in a family of entrepreneurs.

Owning commercial properties, restaurants and money remittance companies in Toronto, she we exposed to business. In addition, she’s helped to manage a food service franchise, as well as own/manage several rental condo units with her husband Michael. Currently she owns a stake in a private family conglomerate that owns several real estate properties in Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary and the Philippines. She also has a part ownership of several local Jugo Juice Franchises as well as an online beauty supply company. She sits on several charitable boards in Calgary. Together they are also involved or contribute to many philontropic organizations such as a yearly scholarship, the Michael and Vivienne scholarship through the Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth.

FCCA Governance

Directors of governance are responsible for governing the Filipino Chamber of Commerce Alberta  (FCCA) organization by utilizing and regulating influence to direct and control the actions and affairs of the board members and others. The governance is accountable for the performance and conformance of the organization.

Joy Tajanlangit

Director of Governance

An embodiment of guts and grit, Joy migrated to Canada in 1997 and thrived to become a successful sales professional and an entrepreneur.

She has worked in the pharmaceutical industry since 1998, joining multi-national companies such as AstraZeneca Canada and Eli Lilly Canada in various therapeutic areas. She has also been involved in successful product launches and has garnered sales awards in her career with Eli Lilly in the area of Oncology. It is in Oncology where she found fulfillment in her profession, learning more about cancer and how medicines prolong the life of cancer patients.

Currently, she is an Oncology Account Specialist for Ipsen BioPharmaceuticals, a company that manufactures Rx&D products for rare tumours and rare diseases.

Aside from her profession, Joy and her family own Manila Convenience Store located in South Calgary. The store offers Filipino grocery, money remittance and is an affiliate of Mango Travel and Tours. Their business also includes direct selling of utilities and essential services to residential and business customers.

Joy is also embarking on another adventure being a Certified Coach Practitioner and is looking forward to empowering women to be the best version of themselves someday. She is a proud single parent to her beautiful daughter, Ella.

Maria Teresa Bañaga Ala

Director of Governance

Maria Teresa B. Ala is a successful nurse and business-woman with experience in both careers spanning more than 2 decades. She is a Registered Nurse with Alberta Health Services (AHS), the largest health care employer in Canada.

Her career began in the Philippines after she graduated Cum Laude with a BSc. in Nursing. She went on with teaching and practiced her career in many hospitals in Lucena, Paranaque and Manila; she eventually landed her a job as the Training and Staff Development Manager at Cardinal Santos Hospital. She had varied experience in many departments in nursing. She had been a speaker to many clinical events in her career. She was pursuing her Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in the Philippines before she migrated to Canada.

In Canada, Teresa became a Nurse with AHS, and is currently a Nurse Clinician specializing in Renal Care. She is an active member in committees developing policies and guidelines for Alberta in that program. Her service awards with AHS span for 20 years of service. As a Nurse, she built her own homecare franchise and owned Senior Homecare by Angels, a US-based franchise employing Caregivers and became a vendor for AHS.
She also developed her skills in business, co-owning and growing profits with her husband, they operate and manage Pacific Hut Restaurant and Bakery, a well-established business within the Filipino Community and Alberta.

Teresa is a supporter and volunteer in various Filipino organizations and events in Calgary, and actively sponsors many media, and varied Filipino organizations. Her love for music encouraged her husband to open their restaurant for local Filipino bands to show their talents. As a Nurse, her passion is to teach and educate Filipinos about their health and wellness, in her clinic.

External Affairs

With a wide range of responsibilities, the main duty of FCCA’s external affairs is external relations. Managing relationships with external stakeholders. Cultivate relationships with Filipino businesses, donors and other funding bodies with strategic focus.

Brian Morales

Director of External Affairs

Brian Morales was born and raised in Montréal, Québec to parents from Mindanao, Philippines and has proudly called Alberta home since 2012.

With a bottomless curiosity for his Philippine heritage, an avid traveller, 15+ years volunteering for Philippine-based community development and 10+ years leadership experience in network marketing, Brian Co-Founded Adventure with Purpose, a social enterprise travel agency aimed at reducing global poverty through business.

A strong advocate for Social Enterprise, Brian has spoken in Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver, Florida and Manila. He is driven to bridge local and global stakeholders for the socio-economic growth of Canada.

Joven Bautista

Head Committee of External Affairs

Co-Founder of Social Booth YYC which is very visible in the Calgary business community. He also co-founded a marketing agency, Phoenix Marketing and Digital Design with his wife Amy Lo. Currently, he is taking up graphics design certificate at the Mount Royal University (MRU) to further raise his companies’ creative marketing and design services. He has always been passionate with arts and design.

Prior to being an entrepreneur, he had extensive experience in the oil & gas industry spanning 10 years as a Civil Engineering Technologist. He did soil mechanics tests both in laboratory and on-site for oilsands in Alberta.

He finished a Civil Engineering Technology Diploma with the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). He also took business administration & marketing courses at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran.

The economic challenges of the oil & gas industry made him rethink and thus, decided to build his own business.

Marketing and Communication

Responsible for managing digital communications, brand presence and technologies. The communication and marketing board’s obligation is to represent FCCA’s diversity, creativity and passion to the community. 

Camille Katigbak

Director of Marketing & COmmunication

Co-Founder of Memorable Creations Inc. and Katigbak Technologies and as of present, the Director of Marketing for the MSS at the University of Lethbridge. Graduate of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Polytechnic with a Legal Assistant Diploma and is currently obtaining her Business Management Degree (General Management) at the University of Lethbridge. Camille co-founded multiple businesses and has increased the brand awareness of both small and large organizations through utilization of creative marketing strategies and bleeding-edge technologies, applications and programs.

Mc Francis Katigbak

Head Committee Of Marketing & Communication

Co-Founder of Memorable Creations Inc., Chief Information Officer of Katigbak Technologies. With over 10+ years in Information Technology field, Mc Francis have assisted with connecting people to technologies. Currently employed with the City of Calgary, managing the network infrastructure of 300+ sites with 10,000+ employees. Completed the academic requirements for the Bachelor of Applied Technology Information Systems, Network Management from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology Polytechnic. Earned Palo Alto Networks Certified Network Security Engineer, and Cisco Certified Network Professional Routing & Switching industry certifications.
